Help / For whoever owns the headsets

Headset setup and cart operations

The goal is simple: every headset has every lesson on disk before students arrive, so class itself needs no network at all.

Supported headsets: Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro.

Installing Vantura

Vantura installs from the Meta Horizon Store like any other app. During the beta, accept the email invitation first, then find Vantura in your library and install it. No cables and no sideloading.

Pairing a headset

Headsets stay signed in between sessions, including across reboots. You pair once.

Cart accounts

For a shared cart, pair every headset to one department account that is enrolled in the class. Students then pick up any headset and start watching, with nothing to log in to. This is the pattern we recommend for lab carts.

Downloads belong to the device rather than the account. If you do switch accounts later, the headset does not re-download lessons that both accounts can see.

The routine before class, about five minutes hands on

The proximity sensor, and the piece of tape

Quest 3 and Quest Pro have a sensor between the lenses that decides you have taken the headset off. When it triggers, the headset sleeps, and sleeping pauses downloads.

We measured this: a headset set down goes to sleep roughly 15 seconds later, even in the middle of playing a video. Vantura holds the display awake against the ordinary inactivity timer, but it cannot override the sensor, and it should not try to.

So while prepping several headsets, either put a small piece of tape over that sensor and remove it when you are finished, or come back to each headset every few minutes until every badge reads Downloaded.

The Quest 3S has no proximity sensor, so this does not apply to it. Set it down and it keeps downloading.

How long it takes

Measured on home Wi-Fi in July 2026, with real files. Re-measure on your campus network, because that is the variable that matters.

WhatTime
App open to downloads startingabout 5 seconds
Sustained speed per headsetabout 50 MB/s, roughly 400 Mbps
One 8K clip, 345 MB, measuredabout 7 seconds
A 5.7K lesson, about 3.4 GB, projected1 to 1.5 minutes
An 8K lesson, about 6.8 GB, projected2.5 to 3 minutes
Reopening with nothing newseconds, no downloads

Projections scale with your Wi-Fi. If campus gives each headset a quarter of that speed, multiply by four. Downloads run one at a time within a headset, and headsets download independently of each other.

One caveat worth stating plainly: our timed run prepped headsets one after the other, so the claim that a whole cart syncs in parallel is reasonable but not yet measured. If you prep a cart, we would genuinely like to know what you see.

What students can do in the headset

Turning is left and right only, by design. Tilting a 360 video takes the horizon off level, and that mismatch is a common cause of discomfort in a headset. Recentering resets per lesson.

Troubleshooting

Signing out

Sign out is on the headset home screen and asks for a second press to confirm. Use it only when you actually intend to hand the headset to a different account, because signing out means pairing that headset again.
